I'm probably already in the Top 5 in my classes so there's really no point.

Chapter 8: Mismatch! Hikaru vs. Red (1)
Another week had passed, and Lance approached his class.
"Well everyone, as you all know, the annual tournament between the classes will be taking place later this week. Like always, you need to be in the top sixty-four students of the class to participate." Lance announced.
The students began talking amonst one another.
"Hey Hikaru, maybe you'll get to be in it for once." Reiji whispered. "Oh please! I may have improved thanks to all of you, but I don't think I'm anywhere near sixty-four yet." Hikaru replied.
Lance began reading off a list of names that listed all of the students eligible to participate.
"And last but not least...number sixty-four...Hikaru!" Lance announced.
Everyone stared up at Hikaru in his seat. Hikaru was speechless, as was everyone else.
"You did it Hikaru!" Kari cheered. "I don't believe it!" Hikaru gasped. "Frankly, neither do I." Kazuma admitted. "Well, that's everyone! All of you who had your names listed meet back here at lunch!" Lance stated.
When lunch arrived, all of the students who's names had been listed met up back in the room with Lance. Before Lance began, he secretly whispered something to Hikaru.
"I'm impressed, you've been doing really well. Out of all of the students here, you're the one I least expected to make it." Lance whispered.
Lance began explaining the tournament to everyone. Most of the students had heard everything before, but some like Hikaru had not. All of the matches would be random, so they might end up fighting each other, someone weaker than them, or someone much stronger. Saturday would be the start of the tournament, which was only a few days away. The group had decided to let Hikaru spend the next few days resting and training on his own, they had crammed enough stuff into his brain for the time being. That Friday, Hikaru had called out his pokemon.
"Okay everyone, no matter what happens tomorrow, let's do our best!" Hikaru cheered.
All of his pokemon cheered with him. Kari and Reiji secretly looked on and smiled. Yunari joined them, and smiled as well.
"I hope he makes it past the first round." Yunari said. "We all do." Reiji agreed. "This year's tournament is going to be interesting." Kari added.
The next day was Saturday, and Hikaru got on the stage to look up at the match-ups. He met up with Kari and Reiji first, and Kazuma second.
"Have you seen my name listed?" Hikaru asked. "Not yet." they all answered.
Hikaru and the others spotted Yunari, who was staring at one section of the board. Everyone thought it was either his match, or the match with the top student in the class. They were shocked when they saw the results.
"No way!" they all gasped.
Hikaru's first match was against none other than Red, not only the top student in Steven's class, but the top student in the school, that is until Ash was to show up.
"Well, this is definately going to be interesting..." Kari said in a surprised voice.
To be continued...
Next time: Hikaru faces off aginast Red, and Hikaru doesn't stand a chance. Hikaru realizes just how large the gap is between himself and Ash, but even so...miracles do happen sometimes.

I decided to post another chapter early.
Chapter 9: Mismatch! Hikaru vs. Red (2)
After many matches had progressed, with Kari, Reiji, Yunari, and Kazuma all winning their matches, it was time for Hikaru's match. Hikaru and Red both stepped into the arena, with Lance announcing it. The students in Lance's group cheered for Hikaru, though they all knew he didn't stand much of a chance. The stdents of the other groups cheered for Red.
"Well, I definately didn't expect to be facing you anytime soon." Red snickered. "Oh, just shut it!" Hikaru growled.
Yunari observed Lance's facial expression, and the expressions of the other Elite Four members.
"I wonder if all of the matches were really chosen at random." he thought. "Okay everyone, you all know the rules. A 3-on-3 battle, let the match begin!" Lance announced.
Both trainers took out a pokeball.
"I'll start off easy, go Green!" Red called out. "Then I'll choose Magmar!" Hikaru decided. "At least he's got the type advantage." Kazuma observed. "Yeah, but we all know Red, it won't affect him much." Kari admitted.
Hikaru told Magmar to use Fire Blast. Venusaur used Vine Whip on the edge of the arena to pull himself out of the way.
"Use Sunny Day!" Red ordered.
Venusaur used his attack, and Hikaru knew what was coming. Red told Venusaur to use Solarbeam. Magmar wasn't near fast enough to dodge it, so he countered with Fire Blast again. The two attacks collided, with Solarbeam tearing through it and knocking Magmar out. Hikaru called it back and sent out Pidgeot.
"It's a shame Hikaru's first match was against Red. He's actually using his head for a change." Reiji sighed.
Although Pidgeot lasted longer, it was still defeated without too much effort from Red. Hikaru called out his last pokemon, Meganium.
"Allow me to interupt this match with a message." Red requested.
Hikaru wondered what Red was going to say.
"I was right, you aren't anywhere close to Ash! Yes, I know all about you trying to surpass him, and I know all about your little encounter with Ho-Oh. I admit that you're better than before, but you still don't get it." Red began.
Hikaru became infuriated with Red's comments.
"Your pokemon are weak, but not because they're just like that. I can tell they've been working very hard. They're weak...because of you!" Red announced. "Because of me?" Hikaru gasped. "You've become so obsessed with your goal, that you've failed to pay more attention to your pokemon. The whole reason you got into this school, was because of your love for them. But, that all changed after you got in. And now that Ash has shown up, you've become blinded by jealousy. Now let me ask you this...what happens when you finally do defeat him?!" Red stated
Hikaru's eyes widened, he hadn't thought about that.
"What happens when your dreams finally do come true, what will you do? Most trainers fail to realize that important fact. That's why you'll never be as good as Ash. I was the same way, I dreamed about winning the Pokemon League. But, when I won it after my first go through, I became depressed. There were no morwe challenges for me. I scoured the lands, but nobody could match me. Then I met Steven, and was defeated easily. My hopes grew, as I was welcomed to this school. I now had a new dream, to become like Steven. Having reached my dreams once, I knew it was a goal that I hoped to never accomplish. That's why after I became the best student in the school, I was sent out to find other trainers like me. Who would've thought I'd meet up with Ash again. I said I was going easy on him, but I lied. He beat me fair and square, and without his strongest pokemon too. I was pleased, and I became even more so when he realized what would happen if his dream came true. Even after beating me, one of the best trainers around, he still loved his pokemon just the same." Red explained.
The two resumed their match, and Hikaru couldn't bring himself to call an attack. Venusaur began thrashing Meganium around like a rag doll.
"He's right, I have neglected my pokemon. Everyone was right about me, I really don't stand a chance against that guy. My pokemon are weak, and it's all my fault. What if I did defeat him, what then? I don't have any other motivation." Hikaru thought.
Tears dripped down Hikaru's cheek. He looked at meganium being tossed around. The two made eye contact, and Hikaru remembered when he was Chikorita. Hikaru remembered the laughs they shared, the fun they had, the battles they won, everything. Hikaru held his head up.
"Maybe you're right...maybe I don't stand a chance against that guy! However, if that's true, then that means I've chosen the right goal. A goal that'll never be met! I'll continue to try and surpass him..." Hikaru began.
Maganium now lay on the ground, slowly getting to his feet. Red gave a small smile.
"And I'll do it with the help of my friends!" Hikaru shouted.
Just then, Meganium's body began to seem like it was more powerful. Thorny vines erupted from the ground and caught Venusaur. venusaur was struck hard, and fell unconscious.
"Impossible!" Red gasped. "No way..." everyone watching the mach all thought.

Chapter 10: Power of Friendship
"I...I don't believe it. Meganium doesn't even know Frenzy Plant...At least, I never taught him it." Hikaru said in amazement.
Meganium seemed to be feeling better, surprising everyone.
"Did he just..." Kazuma gasped. "I think so." Yunari replied. "Usually that's a feat only the few of us can accomplish." Reiji added. "Yeah, you go Hikaru!" Kari cheered.
Hikaru overheard Kari and smiled a bit. Red called back Venusaur.
"Perhaps there is hope for you after all. Just look what you managed to do when you thought about something more important than your goal. Hoever, friendship can go a lot father than that...and I'm going to show you how much you still have to learn!" Red explained.
Red took out another pokeball.
"Your turn Yellow!" Red called.
Kari and the others fell silent.
"No, he didn't just..." Reiji started. "Aye, he did." Kazuma confirmed. "Just when Hikaru was finally like he accomplished something, Red had to go and crush all of that." Kari sighed.
Everyone was surprised that Red would use his Pikachu on someone like Hikaru. Hikaru was not fazed and had Maganium use Frezy Plant again. Meganium did so, but Yellow swiftly avoided the attack.
"Thunderbolt!" Red ordered.
Yellow released a powerful electrical attack, completely wiping out Meganium, making Red the winner. Hikaru called back Meganium.
"Good match, I learned a lot!" he shouted to Red.
Red nodded his head and Hikaru left the arena. Kari and the others tried to congratulate him on doing a really good job, but he was silent and walked out of the hall. Red soon entered the doorway.
"You jerk!" Kazuma exclaimed, punching Red in the face.
Everyone else ran over and Red picked himself up.
"You seem rather angry." Red pointed out. "You usually never use your Pikachu against anyone from our group unless you're facing Vincent! Why the heck did you just go and crush Hikaru like that?! He barely made it into this tournament!" Kazuma said in angry voice. "He wants to face Ash, right? Well, Ash's Pikachu was evenly matched with Yellow when I when fought him, and his wasn't even wearing a Light Ball. In fact, his Pikachu seemed even stronger after the battle. I wanted to show Hikaru what he was truly up against. I didn't do it to crush him, I did it to help him." Red replied.
Red slowly walked away.
"Hikaru..." Kari thought.
