Here is a special preview of my upcoming fanfic "Pokémon Elite", which takes place while Ash is in the D/P region. This one is about the worst student in Lance's group at the Elite 4 Training Academy who decides to change his status after having an encounter with a legendary pokemon.
Chapter 1: A Future Student
A few days had passed since Ash visited the academy. He was the top of the talk in Lance's group, and all of them were determined to not let a new student who had not even reached the age requirement surpass them by so much. Due to the Pokémon Convention, which a few students from different groups had gone to, all of the students spent time with their groups watching pokemon related movies.
"I'm going to the bathroom." one student said to one of his classmates in a kind of cheezed off voice.
"What's with the attitude Hikaru?" one girl asked.
"It's nothing Kari." Hikaru replied.
"Your jealous that even a new student is better than you, aren't you?" Kari questioned.
Hikaru just froze in place with an annoyed look on his face.
"Hit the nail right on the head!" another student laughed.
"Shut up Reiji!" Hikaru ordered.
"How about you shut up? Some of us are trying to watch the movie!" another student stated.
"I'm going now." Hikaru sighed.
Hikaru walked out the classroom door and walked down the hall to the bathroom. On his way back to class, he saw Lance meeting with Drake. Wondering what they were talking about, Hikaru followed them to Lance's office, where he waited outside with his ear to the door.
"So Drake, I appreciate you filling in for me again while I'm away. You always do a good job." Lance said.
"Don't mention it Lance." Drake responded.
"You should become a teacher here, with our new wave of students coming we could use your help." Lance mentioned.
"No thanks, I thought I made that point clear when we decided to erect this academy. It just doesn't suit me. I release I shouldn't be saying that to the champion, but it's just the way I am." Drake replied.
"That's fine, I'll continue to let you do as you please. By the way, we enrolled a new studet earlier this week. He'll be joining us next year." Lance announced.
"Really? Who is it?" Drake asked, interested.
"You've probably heard of him. His name is Ash Ketchum!" Lance answered.
"Him? I've battled him, and though he's strong, he's not ready yet. He's not even old enough! Maybe in the future he will be, but not now." Drake said.
Lance just laughed.
"What is it I should know?" Drake wondered, interested to know what Lance had to say.
"Read this." Lance replied, tossing a newspaper article in front of Drake.
Drake observed it carefully.
"So, he's caught a Lugia? As amazing as that is, you could still beat a Lugia with your talent. But you know that, so something interesting must have happened." Drake smiled.
"You're right. I'm sure you've battled his Pikachu as well. That too has grown to have more power than you thought possible." Lance smirked.
Lance explained the story he heard from Ash, about the battle he had, and about Ash's unique ability.
"I see, a lot has changed." Drake said in delighted mood.
"Hmph, is that why he's so great?!" Hikaru pouted as he walked away.
"I thought he'd never leave." Lance told Drake.
Both had realized that Hikaru had listened to the whole conversation. In fact, Lance wanted Hikaru to know what he was up against.
Chapter 2: The Encounter of a Lifetime!
When Hikaru got back to class, he told his friends what he found out.
"So he's the kid who caught a Lugia eh? He must be pretty amazing to do that!" Kari pointed out.
"I bet I could catch one if I found one!" Hikaru bragged.
"Hah, I'd pay money to see that." Reiji chuckled.
Hikaru grew annoyed with the comment, but he ignored it. After class, everyone discussed the test they had next week, and Hikaru said he was going to go for a walk. Reiji and Kari offered to go with him, but told them he wanted to go alone. The day grew late and it was already sunset. Hikaru was seen lying on the top of a cliff edge, gazing at the scenery.
"That kid's lucky..." he sighed.
Hikaru began to doze offuntil he thought he heard a strange sound. He peered off the cliffside and in the distance he saw a Ho-Oh, what looked to be a young one. He thought he was dreaming, but realized it was real.
"Now's my chance! If I do this I'll become the best student and become just as famous as him!" Hikaru exclaimed.
Hikaru sent out his Meganium and had it use Solarbeam. Meganium powered up and attacked. Ho-Oh was not even paying attention and was hit. As it fell to the ground, Hikaru boasted about how he was right. He rcalled out his Pigeot and called Meganium back. He flew over to where the Ho-Oh was. Suddenly, a blast of fire came out of the area, causing both Pidgeot and Hikaru to fall to the ground. Hikaru cringed in pain and called Pidgeot back. He sent out Meganium and Magmar, telling both to attack. Both were defeated in one attack. Ho-Oh focused an attack on Hikaru and released a blaze of fire. Although Hikaru felt the burn, he didn't show any signs of skin being burnt.
"You're weak!" he heard.
"Are you talking?" Hikaru wondered.
"No, my Sacred Fire is burning special nerves on your body, allowing me to communicate. You're a weakling! You could never catch me, and I'm one of the weakest of my kind!" Ho-Oh replied.
Hikaru gasped and fell to the ground.
"Get stronger, and maybe one day we'll do this again!" Ho-Oh said before taking off and releasing the fire.
Hikaru passed out.
