Chapter 5: Hikaru's Improvement
Hikaru's Meganium was up against Yunari's Arcanine. Drake began the mtach between the two of them.
"Use Extreme Speed!" Yunari ordered.
Arcanine rapidly slammed its body into Meganium. Meganium fell to the ground, but picked itself up.
"Use Sunny Day!" Hikaru shouted.
Meganium's leaves began to glow as it shot a beam of light into the air. A blinding light illuminated the field.
"That wasn't too smart." Raiji pointed out. "Yeah, that moves help fire types too." Kari added.
Yunari just laughed as he told Arcanine to use Fire Blast.
"Vine Whip now!" Hikaru countered.
Meganium grabbed Arcanine's legs with its vines, forcing Aracanine to shoot its atack upwards.
"Solarbeam!" Hikaru yelled.
Meganium quickly powered up and released the beam. Arcanine couldn't dodge it as was struck.
"Did he just win?!" Reiji gasped.
Everyone was completely amazed. It appeared that Hikaru had won, that is until Arcanine jumped to its feet and used Flamethrower. The attack was powered up by Sunny Day, so Meganium fell after one hit.
"I lost..." Hikaru sighed. "It's not like I expected him to win or anything, but he did really good for a change." Kari complimented. "Yeah." Reiji agreed. "Congratulations to both of you, you both passed the test!" Drake announced.

Chapter 6: Recognition
Reiji and Kari both congratulated Hikaru after the test. They both had passed as well, but that wasn't a surprise to anyone.
"I still lost." Hikaru sighed. "We all knew you would, but you still did far better than we expected. Who knows? Maybe one day you'll make it to the upper part of the class with that attitude." Reij replied. "I don't know whether to take that as a compliment, or an insult." Hikaru said. "Come now Hikaru, you know what he means." Kari told him. "I know, but I still wish I could better. There's got to be something I can do to get stronger, besides just ordinary training." Hikaru stated. "Why don't you come to our study group tomorrow? We could all help you out." Kari suggested. "Your study group? Would they even let me join?" Hikaru wondered. "Don't worry, we'll make sure they do." Reiji assured.
Hikaru and the others went back to the dorms. That night, Hikaru stared at the ceiling. Reiji told him he should get some rest, but Hikaru couldn't. He saw an image of Ash and held his hand out, clenching it into a fist.
"I'll catch up to you someday!" he vowed.
The next day after class, Hikaru followed Kari and Reiji to a special room they reserved.
"What's he doing here?!" one student demanded. "He's with us." Reiji answered boldly. "Is there a problem with him being here?!" Kari asked in an angry voice. "No." a familiar voice answered. "Yunari?" a few students gasped. "After his performance yesterday, I think he's earned the right to join us." Yunari announced. "Thanks Yunari." Kari thanked. "You think you can handle training with seven of the top twenty-five students in the group?" Yunari asked Hikaru. "I can do more than that." Hikaru replied. "Good answer. Welcome Hikaru, to our study group!" Yunari welcomed.
Everyone else decided not to contradict him and welcomed him as well.
"If he's going to stay here, he's going to have to make it into the top twenty-five as well." one student reminded. "That's why we brought him Kazuma." Kari responded. "It's settled then, we'll begin training him now!" Yunari informed.

Chapter 7: Progress
Despite the fact the study group only met once or twice a week, nearly every member forcefed Hikaru more and more information every single day. During breaks between class, after the class was over, and even on weekends they continued to teach Hikaru. They would first go over the basic information, even though they knew Hikaru knew all that stuff, and then go on to more complicated stuff, such as how to tell what kind of attacks a pokemon likes using. One night Hikaru had his head up against a table.
"I don't know how much more I can fit into my brain." Hikaru moaned. "Relax, we're done for the night anyways." Kari told him.
The moment Kari finished her sentence, she realized that Hikaru had fallen asleep.
"The Hikaru I knew before would never study so hard until he crashed. Whatever force is driving him, I can only hope that it continues too. Hikaru's been at the bottom of teh class ever since he arrived, and now that's finally changing. He's nowhere near my rank yet, but it's still amazing that he's made so much progress." Kari thought.
Kari grabbed Hikaru's blanket and covered him up. It wasn't long until Reiji showed up.
"He's out." Kari stated.
Reiji smiled as she left the room to go to her own dorm room. Reiji picked Hikaru up and put him on his bed. Hikaru was a sound sleeper.
"Your brain's gonna explode if you keep this up." he laughed.
The next day was another study session. Hikaru entered the room and everyone immediately shoved some books in his face.
"Have all of that read by next week." Kazuma said. "As if homework wasn't enough." Hikaru complained.
Meanwhile, Lance had finally returned and was talking with Drake. It had been a month since he left.
"Thanks for everything!" Lance announced. "Don't worry, it was nothing. Here's a rank sheet of how everyone's been doing since you were gone." Drake replied, handing him a sheet.
Lance looked at it, everything was as he expected. Then his eyes stopped at Hikaru's name.
"Is this sheet right?" he questioned. "Yes, it's 100% accurate." Drake assured. "Look's like he's finally beomce motivated." Lance smiled.
Listed at rank 67 in the class, was Hikaru. In one month, he hand jumped almost half the class.
