Chapter Nine--A Light in the Dark
As nightfall approached, Peter and Ashley reached the Viridian Forest and were already lost. Every tree looked the same as the other one. The two kept on searching to find a way out. It was a bigger priority than catching new Pokémon.
After hours of walking through the labrynth of trees, Peter said, "We should take a break and start tomorrow." Ashley nodded her head in agreement.
To act brave, Peter said, "I'll stand guard watch tonight." Ashley sweetly accepted.
The two found firewood and started a fire. When Ashley went to sleep, Peter stayed watch, as he promised. But his fatigue was stronger than his pride, so he "rested his eyes", so he told himself.
After an hour of "resting his eyes", a bright light from the real world entered Peter's dream world, awakening him. When awoken, Peter was shocked at first, wondering where he was. Then he saw in the distance a bright glow. He didnt want to leave Ashley alone, but the bright light caught his curiosity.
So Peter quietly got up from his post, and silently walked to the light, like a cat approaching its' prey. As Peter came closer to the object, the light got brighter and brighter. At one point it was impossible to look at. Peter hid behind a bush, so the thing wouldnt see it. Then Peter thought that if it was a Pokémon, Dexter would surely know.
Peter pointed Dexter at the light.
"Pikachu, the rodent Pokémon," Dexter said. "When several of these Pokémon gather, their electricity could build and cause lightning storms. It keeps its tail raised to monitor its surroundings. If you yank its tail, it will try to bite you. This int..."
Peter closed Dexter so it wouldnt startle the Pikachu. Peter then thought to himself...
"Pikachu, eh? Well, I can't use Squirtle nor Spearow since they are both weak against Thundershock. And Nidoran is too tired out from the capture. I guess I have to take one for the team then."
Peter picked up a rock and threw it in a nearby bush, away from where he was. The bush rustled. Pikachu turned to where the noise was made. Right after Pikachus alertness was turned away, Peter got a stick, and swiped Pikachu with it. After falling, Pikachu jumped to its' hind feet and shot a Thunderbolt at Peter. Peter quickly evaded the attack by jumping onto the ground. After his rough fall, he quickly swiped Pikachu by the feet, which sent it falling on its' back. Peter quickly jumped to his feet, and tackled Pikachu. When Peter's hands were on Pikachu, it began to shock Peter. While being shocked, Peter threw Pikachu at a nearby tree. Pikachu fainted.
"Go Pokéball!" Peter shouted as throwing the bright red ball. When the ball captured Pikachu, the Pokéball kept on jiggling. Minutes passed as the ball kept moving.
"This is one fighter," Peter said to himself.
After a while, the Pokéball stopped jiggling. A smile curved from Peter's face. The sun arose from the horizon when Pikachu was caught. Peter wiped a piece of sweat that was hanging on a thread of his hair.
When Peter began walking back, he heard a shriek. It was Ashley. He ran as fast as he could to where their camp was. There, he saw Ashley on her knees and a kid with a net. Ashley turned around to see Peter.
"Whats going on?" Peter asked Ashley.
"He took my Pokémon!" Ashley complained.
"I won them fairly!" said the kid, who standing in front of Ashley.
"He convienently didnt mention before our battle that I would have to give up my Pokémon!"
"Slipped my mind. The thing is that you lost and I won."
"How about double or nothing then?" Peter asked the kid.
"Peter, dont be foolish! I lost them. But dont lose your Pokémon!"
"Ashley, trust me... I can take this punk. So how we gonna do this?"
The kid cracked his neck.
"Three on three, if you have that many Pokémon," said the kid. "Go Beedrill!"
"Go Spearow, use Peck!"
"Dodge and use Twin Needle!"
Spearow flew like a dart to its' enemy, only to be dodged. Beedrill then swung its' needles Spearow, who dodged them easily, with its' Keen Eye. The two kept at it, attacking and missing each other. There was no contact between the two. After a while, Beedrill's speed gave in, and Spearow pecked it. With one hit, Beedrill was out.
The kid winced and recalled Beedrill.
"Go Pikachu!" the kid shouted while throwing his Pokéball.
Peter thought for a second. The only Pokémon suiting enough for Pikachu was his own Pikachu, who hasn't gotten enough rest...
As he was thinking, the kid shouted, "Pikachu, use Thundershock!"
Pikachu gathered electricity through its' cheeks and fired an electric blast. The name "Thundershock" was an understatement. Spearow dodged the first bolt, but was fried by the second bolt.
The kid grinned. Peter recalled Spearow in anguish.
"Go Pikachu!" cried Peter as he threw his Pokéball.
When Pikachu exited his ball, the three could see his cuts and bruises from the previous battle.
"Wow! You really crack the whip on your Pokémon," scorned the kid.
Peter squinted in anger. It was frivolous to tell what happened to Pikachu to some snotty kid.
Though Pikachu was weak and injured, it was still in a fighting spirit. One could easily see it in its' eyes.
"Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Peter shouted.
Faster than the speed of light, so it seemed, Pikachu bolted at the other Pikachu before it could react. The enemy Pikachu flew many feet until it crashed into a tree. The enemy Pikachu was hit pretty badly. Peter's Pikachu grinned at the site of victory. Pikachu kept on nodding his body out of fatigue, as it kept on staring at its' enemy. Finally, it collapsed. Both trainers recalled their Pikachu.
"Go Weedle!" shouted the kid.
Peter thought. If he sent in Nidoran, it might be too fatigued. If he sent out Squirtle, he'd have the disadvantage. If he sent...
"While we're young?" asked the kid in a sarcastic way.
Peter made an angry look at his enemy, then chose his Pokéball and shouted, "Go Nidoran!"
Nidoran exited his Pokéball and too had beat marks. Not as many as Pikachu, but they were still visible.
"Nidoran, use Horn Attack!" shouted Peter.
"Dodge, and use String Shot!" yelled the kid.
Nidoran leapt toward Weedle head on, not knowing that it would soon be covered in string. Nidoran tried to break free from its' bandages, but the string was on tight.
"Poison Sting, Weedle!" shouted the kid.
Peter looked confused in why the kid chose that attack. Weedle gave it everything it had and stabbed Nidoran. Nidoran was barely hurt.
"What happened? My Weedle always poison's its' enemies!" cried the kid in confusion.
"Man, you don't know your logistics," replied Peter.
"Lo-wha-tics?" asked the kid in confusion.
"Nidoran's a poison type, and you really think that Nidoran will be affected by the poison too much? Actually, you've helped me quite much, since you've made a hole in the string."
As he said that, Nidoran used its' horn to break free.
"NO!" the kid cried out.
"Horn Attack!" commanded Peter.
Nidoran leapt into the air and pierced Weedle. With one hit, Weedle was out.
"Now hand over the Pokémon!" commanded Peter.
The kid looked sternly at Peter, and began to take a few steps back.
"If you run away, my Pokemon will get you," Peter said in a stern voice.
The kid thought for a moment, then picked three pokeballs from his pocket and ran away into the distance. Ashley took the Pokéballs, opened them up to see her three Pokémon, who were fine. She then smiled at Peter and hugged him.
"Thank you so much!" Ashley said.
Peter blushed. "Aw, it was nothing."
After hugging, the two got their stuff and realized they were in the same problem as before. They were both lost.

Chapter 10--Bedtime Stories
"How are we to get out of this forest?" Ashley asked in panic.
Ashley began to walk in circles around the camp fire, whiched died out over night. She never did like getting lost, and now Peter and her were in that sticky situation.
Peter tried to calm Ashley down, but Ashley didnt listen. It was like she was in a ship that was about to sink. After seeing that calming her down was no use, he sat down to try to think his way out of the Viridian Forest.
As Peter thought, he remembered a bedtime story that his Mother told him once. It was long ago, when Peters' Mom, May, was in her young years, when she was dating Ash. They were travelling around for fun when they got lost in the Viridian Forest.
After remembering that, Peter stood up, and said to Ashley, "Everything we be alright."
"How can you say that?" Ashley asked in a fury. "We're lost here and—"
"Shh," Peter said as he put his finger on his mouth. Ashley was silenced. Peter got Ashley's things and handed to her after putting on his backpack. Then they headed in a random direction. After an hour of walking, they finally found a clearing.
Out of her exhaustion, Ashley asked Peter, "Can we take a break?"
Peter nodded while looking around. Peter checked every rock and tree nearby in the clearing. Ashley was confused in what Peter was doing. She waited a few minutes, hoping that Peter would clear things up. Then suddenly, Peter said "A-ha!"
"A-ha... what?" asked Ashley as she was massaging her foot.
"Over here!" Peter said, motioning his hand to him.
Ashley rolled her eyes, put on her shoe, and hobbled to Peter.
"What is it?" Ashley asked in her frustration while putting on her left shoe.
Peter pointed at the bark of a tree. Ashley looked close at it. Something was engraved in the wood. It was a name. Ashley then gasped. It said "Ash Ketchum".
"How... how did you know... how did you know this was here?" Ashley asked in total confusion. "Do you know my father?"
"In a way, yes," Peter replied in an excited voice. "Hurry, this way, maybe we'll be able to exit this forest before nightfall!"
Peter grabbed Ashley's hand and ran in the direction the encarving faced against. Soon enough, the two met another tree with the same engraving. They changed directions and started running. The two met many trees with engravings.
After hours running, both Peter and Ashley saw the setting sun in the distance. In relief, Ashley ran out of the forest and jumped onto grass. Peter walked over to her and smiled. He too was relieved to get out of the forest.
The two headed to the Pewter City Pokémon Center to get their Pokémon healed.
"Your Pokémon will be ready tomorrow morning," Nurse Joy said to Peter and Ashley.
"Thank you ma'am!" said the two in one accord.
After that, Peter and Ashley headed to the resturaunt. Out of exhaustion, the two ordered heavy meals. Their plates were full of food that even the people nearby could smell the wonderous food.
In the middle of their meal, Ashley asked, "How did you know how to get out of there? And how do you know about my father Ash?"
"Other than the fact of him being one of the greatest Pokémon Masters," Peter said while shoving another spoon of rice up his mouth, "My mother knew him very well. She told me a bedtime story of when she and Ash got lost in the Viridian Forest, and how they got out."
"The same way we got out?" asked Ashley as she gulped down some of her mixed soda.
Peter nodded as he padded his chest from eating too fast.
"Wow. What was her name?" Ashley asked, twirlying her fork on the table.
"May from Petalburg City," replied Peter, as he sighed from finishing his last bite.
Ashley was shocked. After hearing that, she excused herself from the table and headed to bed.
