Chapter 7
Clefairy! Midnight Capture!!
Recap: Ash and Pikachu have left Pallet Town to start their Pokémon journey. In Viridian City, they met May, another new Pokémon trainer who politely asked if she could come with Ash. After earning Boulder Badges in Pewter City, May was kidnapped and her Pokémon were taken from her. Ash journeyed deep through Mt. Moon to save her and now the two of them have reached the edge of Mt. Moon.
Ash and May could now see Cerulean City in the near distance. "Ash! I totally forgot, what with the being kidnapped, I promised myself when I left Littleroot that I would catch a Pokémon in every cave, forest or wherever we went and I forgot to get one in Mt. Moon! I've got to go back!" And with that, she ran back into the cave. "May, wait!" But she was gone so Ash followed. Ash looked around in the passageways but he had no sign of where May was or where she had gone. After about an hour of searching, he found her with a bunch of Clefairy. "Ash, I found a bunch of Pokémon. Don't worry, I have my own PokéBalls now, remember, I bought them in Pewter City while we were out on that tour," she added seeing the look on Ash's face. "Go, Mudkip! Water Gun!" Mudkip's Water Gun hit Clefairy in the face and knocked into the wall hard. Clefairy slumped down on the floor then got up, yelling, "CLE-FAI-RY!!!" A huge beam appeared from its mouth and hit Mudkip squarely in the face knocking it out. "My turn!" shouted Ash running forward. "Go, Pikachu, Thunder!!" Pikachu hit Clefairy with a large Thunder attack and it slammed into the wall again. This time, however, it did not get up. "Go, PokéBall!" shouted Ash throwing one of his PokéBalls at it. Clefairy was sucked into the ball and was caught. "Yeah, I got it! May, do you still want to get a Pokémon wherever we go?" "No. I don't need them anyways. I am going to focus on training the ones I do catch and they will beat you in the Pokémon League." "Yeah, right," Ash said under his breath so May couldn't here him. "Let's go." "Okay." Ash and May exited the mountain and entered Cerulean City where they checked into the Pokémon Center ready for their next Gym battles.

Chapter 8
Cerulean City! Misty and the Romance of Friends!!
Recap: Ash and Pikachu left Pallet Town to start their Pokémon journeys and met a trainer named May in Viridian City. May joined their group and they set out for Pewter City where they both earned Boulder Badges. Now, Ash and May have arrived in Cerulean City and checked into the Pokémon Center.
Ash woke up next morning before May did so he decided he would wait for her in the lobby. While packing up his things, May woke up and looked at the alarm clock. 5:30 "Ash, what are you doing up so early?" "I'm getting ready to go get another badge." "OK. Let's go," she replied jumping out of bed so fast that her covers flew off the bed and across the room. "I'll be ready as soon as I find my clothes." They left the room five minutes later and found the lobby deserted. "Where is everybody?" May asked. "Probably still sleeping. Let's go," Ash replied. "Okay." They left the Pokémon Center and headed straight for the Gym talking the whole way there. "I wonder what Pokémon I'm gonna use. I can use either Butterfree or Mudkip. Ash, who should I choose?" May asked. "I dunno but I'm gonna use Pikachu. This Gym is supposedly a water Pokémon Gym." Upon reaching the Gym, Ash and May found that it didn't open on Saturdays until noon and it was only 6:00 AM. "We don't have to be back for six hours. Do you want to go look around town?" Ash asked May tentatively. "Sure," said May. She placed her arm around Ash's, grabbed his hand and they walked off to explore together. When they reached the first store, a girl with short orange hair emerged. "Oh, look at the two lovebirds," she said in a babyish voice. Ash and May quickly separated hands and blushed furiously, refusing that they were "lovebirds." "Who're you?" Ash asked quite rudely. "I'm Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader. Who are you?" I'm Ash from Pallet Town and this is May from Petalburg Town." "Are you two out on a date? Cuz, if you are you should go to Lover's Walk out by the beach." "We're not dating!! We are just friends!" Ash shouted at Misty. "And we want to challenge you to a match!" "Fine! Come by the Gym later and I will battle both of you." And with that, she walked off. "Let's go back to the Pokémon Center. We don't want to be called "lovebirds" again do we?" asked May. "Yeah, let's go," Ash replied. On the way to the Pokémon Center, neither Ash nor May said anything but were both thinking the same thing. May is very pretty, thought Ash while May thought, Ash is very handsome. Neither said anything until they got back to their room at the Pokémon Center. "Ash, I want to know, do you like me as more than just a friend?" May asked suddenly. "If you must know, I thought you were the prettiest girl I ever saw before you even met me," Ash replied, blushing so furiously, that he was red all the way down the back of his neck. "What about you? Do you like me more than just a friend?" "Yes," May replied, blushing too. "You are very handsome and you are an excellent battler." Neither said anything else until they got to the Gym 5 and a half hours later. "This is it. Ready to win?" Ash asked May as they stood looking at the door. "Yes." They walked in the Gym hand-in-hand and marched straight through the Gym to the center room where they found Misty waiting on the opposite side of a battlefield waiting for them, wearing a yellow bathing suit. "And the lovebirds are back!" she shouted across the field. "Yes, we are! And we're here for two badges!" Ash shouted back. Misty looked taken aback at their not denying that they were in love. "Go, Staryu!" "Ladies first. May, you battle first. I'll battle second." "Thanks, Ash," May replied kissing him on the cheek and advancing towards the trainer's spot. Will she prevail?

Chapter 9
On to Vermilion City: The Sparkling City of Thunder!
Recap: Ash and Pikachu have left Pallet Town to start their Pokémon journey. In Viridian City, they met May, another Pokémon trainer who traveled with them to Cerulean City where they are now both hoping to win a Cascade Badge.
"Go, Mudkip!" May shouted. "Staryu, use Water Gun now!" Misty shouted from her side of the battlefield. Mudkip was hit hard with a blast of water and fell over. "Mudkip! Get up!" May pleaded. "Please." Mudkip struggled to its feet. It appeared to have taken a lot of damage. "Are you OK?" May asked it. "Mud-Mudkip!" "Good. Now use Water--" But Mudkip was already acting. The blast of water that issued from its mouth was stronger than a regular Water Gun and a faint blue light was shimmering around it. The water hit Staryu hard and it fell over unconscious. "May! I think your Mudkip used its Torrent Ability. When its energy gets low, its attacks are boosted by Torrent!" Ash shouted from the sidelines. "Cool," said May as the judge proclaimed Staryu unable to battle. "My turn," said Ash switching places with May. "Pikachu. I choose you!" Pikachu ran forward to face Misty's Starmie who was already on the field. "Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" shouted Ash. "Starmie, dodge and use Hydro Pump!" replied Misty. Pikachu's Thunderbolt and Starmie's Hydro Pump collided in midair and created an explosion. "Pikachu, use Thunder to fill the whole room!" shouted Ash through the smoke. Pikachu obeyed and Starmie was hit hard. When the smoke had cleared, Starmie was knocked out. Both Ash and May had won. "Yeah!" shouted Ash. "We won!" May ran over to Ash and they hugged as Misty walked over to them. "Good job, both of you. Here," she added holding out her hand in which were two Badges shaped like drops of water. Ash and May both took one and did the badge pose together. Later, the two friends were walking down the road to Vermilion City hand in hand when a voice sounded behind them. "May!" Ash and May turned around and saw a boy about their age walking down the road towards them. "Brendan! How are you?" May asked as the boy reached them. "All right, you?" he replied. "I'm fine." "I've been looking for you everywhere. Dad asked me to give you this," he continued handing May a small device. "It's a PokéNav. It has maps of Kanto, Johto, Orre and Hoenn on it. See ya." And he left. "Who was that?" Ash asked as they continued towards Vermilion. "Brendan. My rival. He lives in Littleroot Town. His dad is Professor Birch. Real jerk when no one's around. I'm glad he left quickly." "So, she thinks I'm a jerk huh?" said Brendan to himself as he spyed on Ash and May from the bushes. "I'll show her a jerk!" And he swore to himself he'd get revenge.

Chapter 10
Lt. Surge! Shocking Defeat!
Recap: Ash and Pikachu left Pallet Town to start their Pokémon journey. in Viridian City, they met May who journeyed with them to Vermilion City where both Ash and May are hoping to earn badges.
Ash and May have finally arrived in Vermilion City. It is dusk so they decide to check into a Pokémon Center. Once in their room, Ash confronts May about Brendan. "May, do you think you might have been a little rude about Brendan?" he asked as they climbed into their beds. "Maybe I was but he was always mean to me when no one was in the room," May said. "Maybe he liked you more than as a friend and wanted you to be his girlfriend," Ash said slyly. "If he did, then he could have just asked but I still would've said no because he wasn't the one. He wasn't perfect. Like you," she added quickly. Ash looked over at the clock and saw that it said 10:30. "We should get some sleep. Good night, May." "Good night, Ash." As Ash and May fell asleep, Brendan lay outside their window awake having heard every word of their conversation. So she thinks I'm not perfect, huh? he thought to himself. I'll show her perfect. Next morning, Ash and May got up and walked over to the Vermilion Gym together where they found Brendan already battling the Gym Leader, Lt. Surge. He had his Dugtrio facing Lt. Surge's Raichu. "Dugtrio, Earthquake!" "Jump up high and use Ice Punch!" The Ice Punch struck Dugtrio hard and it fell unconscious. "Dugtrio!" He recalled Dugtrio and ran out of the Gym so fast he ran into May and she fell over and scraped her knee. "Ouch! Brendan!" "Sorry! I didn't see you there," he said apologetically. "That's OK," May said. "That Raichu looks strong. Maybe we better not face him and come back later like after we have two more badges." "Good plan, May!" Ash said. They went back to the Pokémon Center and let Brendan stay in their room for the night while his Dugtrio as being healed. Ash, May and Brendan let out all of their Pokémon and Ash saw thtat Brendan had a Treecko and an Aron. "Cool Pokémon," said Ash. "Thanks," said Brendan. "You know, you could come with us if you'd like," said Ash. "No thanks. I'd rather go alone." "OK," said May rather quickly. "You'd probably better be going then." "Return, Pokémon!" said Brendan and he left. "Whew. Ash, what did you think you were doing?" May asked him as soon as the door was closed. "I was being friendly but since he didn't want to come with, he doesn't have to and now he won't ever be offered the chance again," he added seeing the look on May's face. "Good," said May and she became perfectly friendly again. "Where are we headed next? Never mind. I'm the one who has the PokéNav." She pulled it out and told Ash that the nearest Gym was in Saffron City. "We'll head there tomorrow then." And with that, Ash said good night to May, got into bed and fell asleep.

Chapter 11
Saffron City! Department Store May-hem!
Recap: Ash and Pikachu left Pallet Town to start their Pokémon journey. In Viridian City, they met May, another Pokémon trainer. She joined them and they journeyed to Vermilion City only to find that the Gym Leader was too strong to face so now they are about to head to Saffron City.
Ash woke up the next morning and looked at the clock. 6:58. The alarm rang two minutes later and May got up and got dressed. Five minutes later, they were back on the road again; this time to Saffron City. The trip was very uneventful and they arrived in Saffron City about an hour later. Once in the city, Ash and May headed straight for the Pokémon Center to make sure their Pokémon were in tip-top condition. After leaving the Center, May checked the guidebook and saw that there was a department store in town. "Ash! We've got to go there! Please, can we go? Pleeeeeease?" she pleaded. "All right. We can go. Anything that makes you happy," Ash replied smiling. So, Ash and May headed down to the department store. Inside, there were rows and rows of fantastic clothes, jewelery, and tons of Pokémon stuff. May went crazy at the sight of everything she could buy and headed straight for the Pokémon food because she was running low. While she was doing that, Ash secretly bought a diamond necklace for her. With the necklace in his pocket, he wandered over to the Pokémon food and bought some for his own Pokémon. Next, May went straight for the clothes. She saw several pairs of shoes she wanted but decided against it. When she saw several more diamond necklaces hanging on display, she begged and begged Ash to buy one but he said that they didn't have enough money. Little did she know, he already had one and was planning to give it to her that night at the Pokémon Center. On the roof of the store, there were several vending machines. Ash bought May a drink and they sat down at a table together. "I really wanted one of those diamond necklaces," she sad sadly as she sipped her soda. "Sorry, but we don't have enough money," Ash said, faking an apologetic look. Later, back at the Pokémon Center, while May was in the bathroom, Ash got out the diamon necklace that he had had wrapped at the store and placed it on May's bed. It had a card on it that said,
"Dear May,
You are the best girlfriend a guy could have. I love you.
Ash."
May came out of the bathroom and spotted the package. "Is that for me?" she asked. "Go and have a look," Ash replied with a sly smile. She walked over to the bed and opened the card. With each passing second, Ash could see a smile forming on May's face and then, without even opening the present, she flung it back on the bed, and kissed Ash like he'd never been kissed. After what seemed like hours, they broke apart and Ash said, "Aren't you going to open it?" "Oh, yeah," she replied and she rushed back to the necklace, ripped off the wrapping and gasped with delight. "Ash! It's beautiful! It's even more beautiful than the others in the store! I love it! I love it! I love you!" And she kissed him again.
