Yes, I got the idea from what my friends and I (actually it was mainly me) made up back when the card game first came out. We would always gather about 8 people and wager cards (rares) in duels with only 1 life point. So long as you didn't come in last, you always got something. You'd be amazed at how long some of them took. We thought up the rule of no direct damage after deciding how unfair it would be, as those kinds of cards were common to use back then.
The games really were fun, as they were usually fast paced and made everyone think on their feet.

Chapter 53: 1 Life Point Mayhem
"You guys mind if I take the honor of going first?" Aira asked his opponents.
All of them nodded their heads.
"All right then, let's go! I'll start off by summoning my Golden Tail in defense mode. Thanks to his speicla ability, only warrior and spirit type monsters can attack this turn. Then I'll play two cards face down and end my turn." Aira said.
Golden Tail had the stats of 1200/1000. All of his opponent grouped together.
"He's really tough, so how about we take him out first, then we'll duel each other?" one suggested. "Agreed." the other two replied.
The three returned to their spots. Aira knew what they were planning, who didn't? Two of them summoned monsters in defense mode, and then it was the last duelist's turn.
"I'll play Stop Defense to switch your monster into attack mode. Then I'll summon Celtic Guardian and attack your monster. But first, I'm going to play Replenish Attack, which allows me to gain life equal to the destroyed monsters attack points." the duelist declared.
Celtic Guardian attacked and destroyed Golden Tail. Aira's life points hit zero, but for some reason he was still in the game.
"I'll activate the facedown card known as Relay Soul. Now I'll summon my ood pal Kyubi in attack mode. Sure his attack points are only 1200 right now, but thanks to my trap I can't lose so long as he stay on the field. Oh, did I forget to mention that Kyubi can't be destroyed by any non-tailed beast card?" Aira announced.
All of his opponent gritted their teeth as the final one played a facedown card. It was Aira's turn again.
"Now I'll play the spell card known as Dark Hole to destroy every monster on the field, except for Kyubi that is. Then I'll activate my facedown card known as Spirit Gate. Thanks to this card, I can special summon any spirit monster from my graveyard for one turn. I think I'll summon my Golden Tail in attack mode. Then, I'll play Spirit Guardian in attack mode. Now, I'll attack all three of you together. And just so you know, if I have three or more spirits in play, Spirit Guardian prevents my opponents from activating any spell or trap cards during my turn." Aira explained.
Aira defeated all three of opponents with that one attack. Meanwhile, Marik had defeated his opponents too, but Yugi, Kaiba and Joey were still going.
Chapter 54: Yugi and Kaiba's Beasts Finally Revealed
Kaiba was a bit annoyed, all of his opponents kep destroying every monster he played, and he had to rely on traps. He knew they were ganging up on him, but he never thought that his deck would be giving him the cards he didn't need.
"Somebody hates me today." he groaned.
Finally Kaiba drew Cyber Jar and played it face down in defense mode. The player who went next attacked it, and activated it, allowing Kaiba to get four monsters out. However, as the turns progressed he only had one left. Kaiba drew his card and was finally pleased.
"It's about time." he smirked.
Kaiba sacrificed the monster he had on the field in order to summon Rokyubi in attack mode. His stats were 2400/1600. Thanks to him I can summon up to 4 more monsters from my hand or deck so long as I play each of them with only 600 attack points. I think I'll summon three Blue-Eyes White Dragons, and a Kaiser Seahorse. Then I'll play Polymerization to fuse all three of my Blue-Eyes together to form my Ultimate Dragon and attack one of you. But that's not all, I'll then play De-Fusion and separate it into the three dragons from before, each with their original attack. I'd say that's game!" Kaiba announced.
Kaiba had won his duel. Upon seeing this, Yugi realized he had to finish his duel up now. He drewe his card for his turn, and currently had a King's Knight and a Curse of Dragon on the field.
"Now I sacrifice both of my monsters to summon Hachibi, the Eight-Tails!" Yugi shouted.
Yugi's monsters disappear as Hachibi appeared on the field, his stats showing 3000/2600.
"When Hachibi is summoned my life points are autmoatically reset to 8000. Then, by giving up 800 life points I'm allowed to draw and keep drawing until I hold eight cards. Finally, by discarding all eight of them Hachibi can attack every monster on the field." Yugi declared.
Hachibi destroyed all of the opposing monsters, causing Yugi to win. Joey had recently finished up his match as well, managing to win.
"So, those are what powers those beasts hold. We'll have to be careful." Kaze thought.
Kaze stepped into the center of the area.
"It looks like all of the contestants from Duel Academy are the winners, and it looks like one of the schools is all out!" Kaze announced.
The students from Duel Academy shouted loudly as the ones who lost sighed.
To be continued...
Next time: Kaze has just eliminated 15 duelists, only 35 remain, 20 belonging to Duel Academy. How long can they hold out?

For those of you who can't wait, and since it will be a while still, here are some spoilers about what happens in the end. Be warned that it gives away the entire ending!
The group ends up getting separated in a final effort to stop the gods from being revived. Aira manages to defeat Kaze after a very long duel, and Kaze keeps his promise to hand over the cards. He doesn't need them though, as Suzaku already has enough power to be revived, because Kaze gave up his body to Suzaku. Suzaku is now in using Kaze's body as his own, and Aira is forced to go into his fox form. Before a fight occurs, Suzaku reveals that since Aira had once been sacrificed to the gods, he can still do something that Aira has overlooked. Suzaku removes Aira's soul from his body and traps it in a very large container. Aira's body stares at his soul as it completes the process of being turned completely into a fox. Jaden and the others finally catch up, but are too late. Suzaku has control over Aira's body, and forces him to attack his friends They notice Aira's soul in the shape of his fox body in the container and call out to him, but Aira fails to hear them. While the 8 beast holders hold off Suzaki and Aira, everyone else tries to set him free. Aira finally hears Jaden's voice and calls to Kyubi, telling him to use his body as a medium. Kyubi takes over Aira's body and sets Aira's soul free. Suzaku grows furious and draws power from all of the gods, causing Aira to do the same with the nine tailed beasts.. Aira's power is still no match though, and everyone uses all of their cards to help him, with all of the cards becoming real for a brief moment. Aira finally kills Suzaku and the other gods, but dies in the process. Jaden can't accept this, saying it's not fair. Jaden notices the White Heron and Flapping Wings of Time cards and wants to use them to reverse time. Everyone at Duel Academy shows up and discovers the truth about Aira, and the cruel fate that happened to him. With the poer of the nine beasts and everyone's hearts, they succeed in activating the cards' powers. It's too late thoguh, as Aira's a permeant fox. Everyone tells him that they don't care, and that no matter what he is, he's still a member of Duel Academy, and is a friend. Everyone has been free of the gods' control, and Aira is now a hero. The nine beasts begin to disappear and say that they can do one last thing. While everyone is hugging Aira, they use their remaing power to return Aira to human form. Aira still has the power to change though. Later, Jaden shows Aira a card that Chumley and Pegasus designed for him, it's of none other than Aira in his fox form. The fic ends with the two having one final duel.

Okay, here's the long awaited next chapters.
Chapter 55: On His School's Behalf (1)
Slade noticed Chazz with his school and became a bit annoyed. He approached him and grabbed him by his uniform.
"You...you took out Jagger, didn't you?! We weren't even after you this time!" Slade growled. "Hands off. I didn't touch that jerk, he lost to Kaze." Chazz replied. "You seem oftly sure about that. Did you see this happen?!" Slade demanded. "No, but I did." Jaden admitted. "Oh sure, like I'm going to believe that from one of this guy's friends." Slade scowled.
Slade prepared his duel disk.
"If you want me to believe you, you'll have to defeat me in a duel!" Slade announced. "That sounds fun, we're fifteen people over the necessary amount anyways. However Slade, should you lose, your entire school does too. And should these guys lose, they'll lose 5 people." Kaze said, walking over.
Slade hesitated for a second and looked at the North Duel Academy. He was the best one they had, so they accepted it.
"If that's how it's going to be, then Aira will be his opponent." Kaiba stated. "No sir, please...let me duel him! I'm the one he wants!" Chazz requested. "Let him do it." Aira told Kaiba. "Fine, you can duel him Chazz. Just don't lose!" Kaiba decided.
Chazz prepared his duel disk and the two began their match.
"I'll start off by summoning Wing Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #2 in attack mode. Then I'll play Dragon Claw to raise his attack points to 2300. Next I'll play two cards face down and end my turn." Slade informed.
Chazz drew his card and noticed that Ichibi was in his hand.
"I'll use Enchanted Fitting Room and give up 800 life points to reveal the top four cards of my library. Now, since two are monsters that are level three or lower, Armed Dragon Level 3 and Ojama Yellow, I can summon them to the field. Then I'll play Ichibi, the One-Tail!" Chazz explained.
Ojama Yellow greeted Chazz like usual as Chazz's beast emerged on the field. Slade smiled.
"So that's the card I've heard about." he smirked.
Chapter 56: A Brother's Stupid Mistake (2)
"Now, I'll sacrifice Armed Dragon Level 3 to activate Ichibi's special ability. It transform him into your monster with the same attack points for one turn. Now he attacks your monster!" Chazz declared.
Ichibi destroyed Slade's monster, and reduced his life points to 2850 with his ability. Slade smirked again as Chazz ended his turn. He drew his card and laughed.
"You're a fool bro! That card is just like I've heard about, and now it's going to be mine! First, I'll play the Spell Card Retreat of Monsters to return one monster on any field to the top of that player's deck." Slade cackled.
Chazz gritted his teeth as this happened.
"I activate my trap card, Conscription. This forces you to reveal your top card, and if it's a monster, I can special summon it! And, since I know what it is, I can guarantee I get to summon it!" Slade laughed.
Everyone from Duel Academy became worried, while the students of North Duel Academy cheered. Aira and the other card holders knew better, and held in a laugh.
"I'm not going to be held responsible for what you've just done." Chazz sighed. "Of course not, I'm going to be responsible for your defeat!" Slade bellowed.
Slade summoned Ichibi to his side of the field and laughed some more. Ichibi looked at Slade and realized he was not his master.
"You...have no right to use me!" Ichibi announced.
Slade wondered what the tanuki was talking about, and became shocked that he could understand it. Slade received a powerful shock from his disk. He knelt down in pain.
"What'd you do?!" he demanded. "Nothing. You see, these tailed beasts card each chose a master, a worthy duelist. If someone other than the true owner plays one of these cards...Well, let's just say it's a bad idea." Chazz answered.
The shock continued to zap Slade until he ended up passing out. Ichibi's card lifted off of the duel disk and flew into Chazz's hand. Chazz looked over towards Kaze.
"Well Mr. Judge, what's your call? Do I have to wait until he wakes up?" Chazz asked. "No, we don't have time to wait. So, Chazz is the winner, and five more duelists are out of here!" Kaze declared.
The students of Duel Academy cheered loudly, while the students of North Duel Academy moped in despair. Kaiba looked at Slade's body.
"Somebody have the medical team prepare another bed." Kaiba sighed.
Chazz approached his brother's body.
"Like I said, I hold no responsibility for what happened." he stated.

Chapter 57: Wipe Out!
Kaze smiled, as his plan was coming together very nicely.
"We still have too many people to proceed to the finals, so here's the next challenge. Each school will have five duelists selected at random to participate in a team duel consisting of the all. It's over once all of the other duelists on the opposing side are defeated. So, it's possible to eliminate up to nine duelists this round, or only five. Oh, and the duelists will be chosen at random." Kaze announced.
Kaiba gritted his teeth, Kaze was up to something. In the end, Edo, Crowler, Dimitri, the head of Slifer Red, and the head of Ra Yellow were selected. As they all began the team duel, all the duelists from both sides struggled desperately in this massive duel. Sadly, two of the students from Kaze's school managed to be the only ones to survive in the very end. All of the duelists from Duel Academy apologized for their defeats.
"Now, how sending two more up at random to try and defeat these two in a tag team duel?" Kaze suggested.
Kaiba became annoyed, as two duelists representing Duel Academy were chosen and defeated.
"Perfect, we have only twenty duelists left! Now, it's time for the finals!" Kaze announced.
Kaze smirked and took out his duel disk. He took out Suzaku's card and placed it on it. The volcano on the island suddenly shot a stream of flames upwards, causing the whole island to shake. A small temple on a mysterious island rose from underneath the water, with a bridge of light leading to it.
"What is that?" everyone gasped. "From here on out, only the duelists participating may cross to the island. Inside that temple, is the tool that will be used to resurrect the Japanese gods!" Kaze laughed manically.
As the island continued to shake, forcing Shepard to send all of the students inside the school.
"The challenge is, first one to reach the temple's lowest level wins!" Kaze cackled.
The seven duelists from Kaze's school ran across the bridge to the island. The nine beast holders, Marik, Mai, Bakura, and Joey all looked on.
"Let's go!" Aira told them.
