I think it's the way it should be, or getting in first wouldn't matter, and usually everyone catches up at an airport, like they did yesterday

Exactly. If the last team comes in 10 hours after the first team and there is a 12 hour rest from the time the first team arrives, then the last team would only get 2 hours!
Last night, as I was watching, I looked at the clock. No one had arrived at the Pit Stop yet and it was 9:53! Usually the first team arrives sometime between -:30 and -:45!
